Parenting is, by far, my boldest and most daring adventure.

  • Is Parent Coaching therapy?
No, coaching is not therapy. Coaching concentrates on the present. It is an asset-based approach that largely focuses on the personal and collective strengths that exist within the parent and the family and seeks to amplify what is working to address a challenge. It does not place a lot of emphasis on the past or focus on healing previous emotional hurt and/or trauma. If we determine during the coaching process that your challenge would be better addressed through therapy, I would be happy to provide a list of possible referrals.
  • How long does it take before I start to feel better about things?
Oftentimes having a non-judgmental and supportive person who can listen, ask questions and provide knowledgeable feedback when appropriate can help folks feel a bit better about things almost right away. Beyond that, the level of commitment to the process and a willingness to share and explore will likely lead to not only progress but a sense of personal confidence and parental agency sooner than you think.
  • I have a crazy busy schedule. How can I make time for coaching?
Taking a bit of time out for yourself is a good way to make that “crazy busy” schedule seem a bit more manageable. I am happy to coach in almost any setting and if meeting in person does not make sense for you then as long you have WIFI or cell phone service we can make coaching work for you.
  • How much will coaching cost and for how long?
I charge $125 for 55 minutes and, in general the coaching process runs about 8 to 10 sessions though this number may differ depending on the parent and their needs. I believe it’s important though to have a number in mind to promote accountability and investment in the process.
  • What happens if I finish coaching and then the same challenge or a new challenge emerges months later?
Sometimes (and especially when our stress level is super high) we can fall back into old patterns and ways of thinking and for that you are always welcome to comeback for couple “booster sessions” to get your bearings again. I view the coaching relationship itself as open-ended and flexible so my door is always open to helping you address a new challenge or an old one that’s resurfaced.
  • How do I get started?
The best way to determine if coaching is right for you is to send me an email using the Contact Me Box on my website. Then you and I can schedule a free 15- to 20-minute phone consultation to discuss your current challenge and determine if coaching makes sense for you.
  • Do you have any specializations?
The parents I work with are diverse and their concerns run the gamut. I have worked with expectant mothers of toddlers who are struggling to prepare mentally for the new addition to their home, parents dealing with a child diagnosed with ADHD and unable to separate from their phone, and moms just trying to create a greater sense of positivity within their families. I have also worked with parents of young adults as they try to navigate not only the transition to being an empty nester, but also the new relationship that they are creating with their children as they leave the nest for good.
